A Family Affair
Arnold Buchanan founded Buchanan Lumber in 1945 in McCreary, Manitoba. Arnold operated a custom cutting mill during the early years of the company with the support of his wife Irene, their 4 children - Verna, Roy, Gordon, and Leona - and their children’s spouses. When Arnold moved the mill to High Prairie, Alberta in 1956, most of the Buchanan clan followed. In the Buchanan tradition, Gordon’s children gravitated to the mill. Lois, Wanda, Greg, Kim and their spouses are either employed at the mill or help out indirectly. Gordon’s grandchildren have also lent a helping hand and developed skills at Buchanan Lumber. They grew up around the mill picking sticks and piling lumber at an early age. A few of the Buchanan grandchildren have remained with the company in various capacities under the guidance of Gordon’s son Greg. As Vice President, Greg is taking Buchanan’s to new heights, diversifying products, and steering the family company into a successful future.
