Environment
Buchanan Lumber is committed to sustainable forest management and production processes that reduce waste and carbon emissions. We operate with the full understanding that without sound environmental practices our business and the community do not thrive.
Buchanan Lumber’s Woodlands department has drawn on its expertise and experience, and on input from stakeholders, First Nations and Métis peoples, and the general public to develop forest management strategies that focus on sustainable development. The department adheres to the Forest Care Code of Conduct and works with counterparts at Tolko to manage harvesting and reforestation through a strategic partnership that is redefining how the industry looks at forest management.
Within the mill itself, the environment is an increasing concern. When it comes to going green, Buchanan Lumber has made some noteworthy progress over the years with its zero-waste policy and other initiatives that have reduced our carbon footprint.
“Reforestation and other environmentally conscious activities are the best investments we as an industry can make in our forests, in Alberta, and in Albertans”
- President Gordon Buchanan
