Buchanan Lumber’s Zero-Waste Policy
Environmental stewardship is not just about sustaining the growth of the forest. Buchanan Lumber’s approach to sustainability is shaped both externally by government legislation, certification bodies, and the community, and internally by best business practices and polices that reflect our commitment to the well-being of future generations and to the longevity of our operations. Buchanan Lumber’s Zero-Waste Policy, which was officially adopted in 2007, is an important example of this internal policy.
Since 1997, Buchanan Lumber has spent over $24 million in upgrades on technology aimed at maximizing fiber utilization. Not only have we switched to state-of-the-art saws and automated scanning to increase accuracy and recovery by running thinner kerf and tighter tolerances, we proudly use every part of the logs that enter the sawmill to reduce waste and produce value-added products.
- Gordon Buchanan Enterprises Research and Development is currently exploring options to collaborate with other innovative Albertans and the Government of Alberta to manufacture green products made from sawdust and other biofibers. Contact us with your ideas.
